NOTABLE: This area, known for its rough-and-tumble history, is home to the world’s first legally recognized transgender district, with traces dating to the 1920s. In the Roaring '20s, the Tenderloin had San Francisco’s first LGBT bar, The Gangway (1910), along with other key important spaces and gathering spots for the transgender and queer community. I once lived here and try to visit friends and family whenever possible.
